You will always be able to find an answer in the sound of water

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us by completeing the form below or sending us an email at admin@lonestarwaterscapes.com if you cannot find an answer to your questions.

The major difference between these two is:

  • Cleaning is a refresh of your pond or water feature and can be done with your fish in the pond; 20%-35% of pond water is replaced and the bottom is cleared of debris.
  • Cleanout is a reset of your pond or water feature with your fish removed 95% of your water replaced; vacumming, powerwashing, and pump/filter inspection and clean out

The answer to this depends on the most recent maintenance of your water feature

  • If you have not performed a yearly cleanout, you need to have a clean out performed to enhance
  • If you have had a cleanout done in the last 12 months a cleaning should help improve the water quality for your aquatic life.

Yes, for an additional fee of approximately 1 hour of labor

Yes, for an additonal fee to be assesed depending on access, a minimum of 1 hour of labor

Yes, but pricing adjustments vary based on the light:

  • For spotlights there should be no labor charged
  • For fountain only lights there will be a charge for 3 hours of labor plus the cost of the lighting and any necessary lighting acessories, this is due to  the need to disassemble and reasseble the water feature.

Yes,  you could raise Tilapia in a properly sized pond with the right conditions,  however they may not propogate as much as you would desire.   Fish are most commonly kept as pets in our ponds.

Keep your intake and skimmers clean and have a yearly cleanout completed to rejuvinate the water quality and habitat for your aquatic life.

There are a few options in this scenario, we can hire a specialist that breaks through the limestone, that excavation process can take 1-5 days depending on the pond and the density of the limestone.    We can also do a pond partially or all above ground, contact us for more details.

Yes, there is an additional charge. For each foot of height you add there is a $400 fee per length of pond.  (If your pond is 10', the additional 1' of heights will cost $400x10=$4000)

 There are really 2 things:

  • Letting your pump go dry
  • Letting your filters get too clogged so the pump isnt getting the proper flow

The pump is heart of your pond, moving water and keeping your aquatic life healthy.  Aquascape pumps are heavy duty and can take some neglect, but it is best to make sure your pump good working order and you perform maintenance for it to last long past your warranty.

There are warranties for the parts as provided by aquascapes, and the installation is warranted for 1 year through Lone Star Waterscapes, if there is something not quite right...call us!

How to:

calculate the square foot surface area of your pond

What you need:

  • Tape measure
  • Calculator
  • A place to make note of your measurements

Square & Rectangular ponds:

  1. Measure your ponds length (L); note size
  2. Measure your ponds width (W); note size
  3.  Multiply them together L X W= sq ft; note size.

A 10 x 8 pond would have a square foot surface area around 80 sq ft.

Circle & irregular shaped ponds

Circle ponds and irregular shaped ponds are a bit more challenging to calculate. The below steps assume your pond is a perfect circle. If it is not you may need to estimate.

  1. Measure the widest distance across the pond this to get the diameter; note size
  2. Divide the diameter in half to get the radius; note size
  3. Multiply the radius by the radius
  4. Multiply the product in 3 by Pi (3.14), note size.

If your pond has a diameter of 10 ft it has a radius of 5 ft it would roughly have a square foot surface area of 78.5 sq ft.  (5x5=25x3.14=78.50)
